What to do if your electric caddy is exposed to water!
What to do if your electric caddie goes scuba diving for lost golf balls?
If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having your electric caddie go into the water, don’t panic! There are a few simple steps you can take to inspect your cart and battery for water damage. Be extremely careful when handling the battery, as water and lithium ion can be a dangerous combination.
Inspect the battery
Do not attempt to charge the battey until you are 100% sure there was no water leaked into the battery. To inspect the battery, remove it from the battery bag and unscrew the four Philips screws on the top side of the case. Open the case and look for any water inside. If there is water, dump it out and dispose of the battery at a local hazardous waste facility. Replacement batteries are available at https://www.carttek.com/collections/batteries/products/lithium-ion-batteries.
If there is no water in the battery case, screw the case back on and set aside while we're inspecting the rest of the caddie.
Inspect the motor controller
Next, open the control card under the battery tray. Inspect the motor controller box for any water. If there is water, attempt to dry it out with compressed air or a hair dryer. If the motor controller box is completely dry, screw it back into place and move on to the next step.
Inspect the motors and gearboxes
Next, remove one motor and gearbox assembly from the axle tube to see if there is any water inside the axle tube. Once this is removed, you can gently pull the motor assembly out of the tube. Doing this will also give you a chance to inspect the inside of the tube for any water. If there is no water in the axle tube, replace the motor and gearbox assembly and move on to the next step.
Inspect the receiver
If the caddie was submerged all the way to the handle, we suggest opening the Speed dial mount, and/or receiver housing and allowing these units to dry out as well.
Finally, check all of the electrical connections for any water damage. If there is water damage, clean and dry or replace the damaged components.
After everything is completely dry, reassembled, you can plug the caddie in to see if we are back up and running. About 80% of the time, this is all that is required. Contact Cart Tek at: sales@carttek.com or 541-633-4308 to discuss any further items that may be required.
