Practice makes perfect, right? But what if there was an amendment to that rule: Perfect practice makes perfect. When it comes to practicing your big chips, there are a few ways to do it. We’re here to help you practice your game with some chipping tips and tricks. Assessment When you’re practicing your chips, the best way to do it is to try it three different ways. It’s helpful to be able to assess how the ball is situated in the grass, what the slopes are and any other variables, like wind speed or what the landing area is like. Once you’ve assessed this, you’re ready to practice your shot. Three ways If you spend your practice making the same chip shot over and over again, you may be going about your practice all wrong. Try taking shots in three different ways, either a high shot, or lower, and then try hitting it in the middle, or taking a medium shot. If you are constantly changing the way you take the shot, you’re training yourself to use other options, like the slopes, landing area, etc. By relying on other factors, rather than just your shot, you’re likely to make a better chip. If you practice your chip in different ways, you’re more likely to find a way that works best for you, and find one that you get quite comfortable using. Short Game vs. Long Game Most people admire pros for having a great short game, but it requires more practice in your long game to get to where you need to be for a good short game. Don’t forget to practice your longer shots. Really try to test yourself and analyze them in different ways. Try taking the shots in different ways to see what works best with you and your swing. Take Away The best plan for success in golf is to have the perfect combination of analysis and swing. Spend time approaching your shots differently. Spending hours practicing the same shot, isn’t going to open you up to trying it differently. And if you don’t try to take your swings a bit differently now and then, you may never find the swing or chip shot that works best for you and your game. So take your remote control walking golf cart and get out there for some chip practice.
