FAQ

All About Batteries

What's the proper way to charge a battery?

Charge your battery after every round.  First plug your battery into the charger, and then plug the charger into the wall outlet.

When the battery is fully charged, unplug the battery, and store in a cool dry place (I.E. Laundry room, etc.)

A fully charged battery should read approximately 29.4 Volts. Hole #1 is Positive, #2 is Negative, #3 is open(nothing).

How long does the battery take to charge?

After a round of golf, it will take approximately 4 to 6 hours to charge.

I have just received my new cart, put the battery on the charger, and the light has gone green in less than an hour, is anything faulty?

Cart Tek batteries are shipped with a partial charge, and may not take very long to charge fully. Make sure you are following proper charging procedures: Plug the battery into the charger first, then the charger into the wall outlet.

If I only play 9 holes, do I need to charge before my next round?

Yes.  The battery must be charged after every use.

Is my battery ready to use as soon as the green light shows on the charger?

When the green light is showing, the charger is no longer charging the battery.

Should I buy a second battery?

If you play 36 in a single day very often, it may be a good idea to buy a spare battery.   Most of our caddies will make 27-36 on a single charge when played back to back.  If you do buy a spare battery, make sure to rotate which battery you use to prolong the life of the batteries.

How often do I need to fully discharge my battery?

You must never fully discharge the battery as this could severely reduce the energy storage capacity of the battery. If you have fully depleted the battery, ensure that you use proper charging techniques and fully charge the battery. It could take up to 8+ hours to charge.

What happens if my battery dies mid-round?

If your cart is stopping before the end of the round, each Cart Tek golf cart is equipped with a free-wheel mode which allows you to finish your round by simply pushing the cart.    When you get home, ensure you follow proper charging techniques and the charger is showing red for about 6-8 hours.   If not, contact Cart Tek at 541-633-4308 or sales@carttek.com

How do you store your battery for extended periods of time?

We consider long-term storage as 2+ months.  What we recommend is having a full charge on your battery when you enter "storage".  See How to properly charge your battery.

1) Check the charge of the battery after 60 days.  If the light stays green, you should still have a full charge, and wouldn’t need to charge at that time.
2) Recheck your charge every 30 days.  When the battery shows an Amber or Red light, allow the battery to fully charge on its own, and repeat the process.

Most of the time we find that the batteries won’t deplete enough to need a charge until about the 90-day mark, but it is best to check just in case.
